Rising Sun staff train Kent Police
In January, Rising Sun team members were invited to take part in a key SafeLives…
Rising Sun is here to support you or someone you know live free and heal from domestic abuse. Whatever stage of the journey you're at, we're here for you.
What do you think of our new look? We’re so pleased with our new logo!
Rising Sun has been working to end domestic abuse for nearly 50 years. We are still going strong, supporting those who are experiencing or have experienced abusive relationships to find safety, heal and recover, and rebuild their lives.
Our name may have come from the disused pub that housed the Canterbury Women’s Refuge in the 1970’s, but it’s always felt an apt name for our services. We support women and children to rise, to grow into positive futures, to have hope.
Our previous logo, with a rising sun, reflected the support we provided. However it was rather dated and busy, with several colours. We were keen to have a clearer, more simple and striking design that would be recognised easily. It was very important though that a new logo design kept this symbol of hope.
Rising Sun has always centred survivors’ voices in everything we do. We work alongside survivors, believing and validating their experience, showing empathy, asking them what they need and want. We accompany them on their journey to a positive future.
Our new logo reflects that journey, a winding path that is different for everyone, which joins to a rising sun.
We ensured we had input from survivors and from Rising Sun staff with the logo design, and everyone was keen to keep this symbol of hope. Hope is key for those who are experiencing or have experienced domestic abuse.
As one survivor told us after she met with a HIDVA after being admitted to hospital.
“She gave me hope. And I think that is the biggest thing that someone can offer someone in that situation as you’re in such a dark place. I decided that there was no other way out for me but to make the noise stop completely and this lady, just made me feel that I wasn’t going crazy, that it wasn’t my fault and that there was hope and there is other people out there that are willing to extend their hand to help. I think for me, the Rising Sun massively represents hope. And I think if people don’t have hope what have you got.”
We were keen to add a tagline to our logo to encapsulate who we are and what we do.
We are the local expert provider of domestic abuse services in the Canterbury, Ashford and Folkestone & Hythe districts, and are embedded within our communities. We work in partnership with survivors and other professionals to bring about lasting change, and advocate for survivors to ensure their voice is heard and listened to. We carry out awareness raising, training, and fundraising activities with survivors, supporters and other agencies to work towards our vision of ending domestic abuse.
So we do all this – together. ‘We’ is us together with victim-survivors, professional agencies and our community, ‘Ending domestic abuse. Together’.
We’d love to hear your feedback about our new logo and tagline!
