Domestic Abuse and Mental Health
Domestic abuse has a huge impact on children and young people’s mental health – 31% of children who die by suicide are recorded as having been living in households where domestic abuse was present (Woodhouse, 2025), and so we are incredibly grateful that this need has been recognised.
Through the Kent Therapeutic Alliance, Rising Sun is providing specialist domestic abuse support to children and young people aged 5-18. This may include mentoring, counselling or art therapy. The services helps young people understand and manage the impact of domestic abuse and supports their emotional recovery.
It supports children and young people who may be experiencing anxiety, low self-esteem, trauma-related behaviours, difficulties at school or challenges forming safe and healthy relationships because of their experience. The services helps them feel safer, more confident and better able to cope.
