This past weekend, more than 14,000 people finished Brighton Marathon – the highest number in the event’s history. Next year, the unique seaside city marathon will be taking place on Sunday 4 April and you could be on the starting line running for Rising Sun!

In 2025, Thomas Aspinall took on Brighton Marathon for Rising Sun and raised an incredible £1,180 to support survivors of domestic abuse across east Kent. When asked what he would say to anybody thinking about taking on a challenge like this for Rising Sun, he shared:

“Do it! I feel everyone has got their own marathon inside of them.

Doing something you felt would never have been possible adds so much to your life in all different aspects. It makes the broken trainers, carb loading and sore toes worth it, so why not give something a go!”

Brighton Marathon truly offers you the best of the vibrant seaside city – expect rolling terrain, sweeping sea views and thousands of supporters cheering you on!

Rising Sun’s very own Finance and Fundraising Officer took on Brighton Marathon as her very first marathon this weekend, and shared:

The route

Brighton Marathon starts in Preston Park, and on route you’ll explore the city passing landmarks such as Theatre Royal and the Royal Pavillion. After passing Brighton Marina you’ll make a U-turn to take in the unforgettable views of the cliffs as you pass the halfway mark. Thousands of supporters will fill the streets as you pass the famous Brighton Pier, Grand Hotel and the Peace Statue. You’ll complete your final miles along Hove Promenade, passing the strikingly colourful beach huts, with the Brighton locals giving you the energy for your final push as you cross the finish line!

Apply for a Rising Sun place

Rising Sun has just 3 places available in Brighton Marathon on Sunday 4 April 2027, which will be allocated by application process. By applying for a Rising Sun charity place, you must pledge to raise at least £350 (before Gift Aid) in sponsorship.

By running for Rising Sun you’ll be making your miles count by raising funds to support women and children rebuilding their lives following the impact of domestic abuse.
